Message from Executive Director

At the heart of our work is a strong commitment to the people, wildlife, and natural environment of Snohomish County and Camano Island. Our mission is to foster healthier, more resilient systems—today and for generations to come.

We are generously supported by grants from state and federal agencies, as well as small fees assessed on most private properties within our service area. This funding model allows us to offer our services at no cost to our communities, including residents, farmers, and schools.

Through our expertise and resources, we help:

  • Farmers increase the viability of their operations and sustain local food production.

  • Community members plant trees and other native plants that provide shade and habitat, improve air and water quality, and enhance community well-being.

  • Students learn where their food comes from and how it’s grown through hands-on education.

  • Residents install rain gardens and bioswales that filter pollutants in stormwater, support pollinators, and beautify streets and yards.

  • Future conservationists gain skills through our workforce development programs and Washington Conservation Corps.

  • Landowners and neighborhoods reduce wildfire risk through forest stewardship and community wildfire resilience efforts.

  • Riparian ecosystems recover and thrive, improving water quality, cooling streams, and restoring salmon habitat.

By strengthening the resilience of both our communities and natural systems, we’re contributing to a healthier future for all. Clean air and water, healthy soils, pollinators, wildlife, and local food systems are essential—and everyone can play a role in protecting them.

Thank you to those who are already part of this work. For others, we warmly invite you to join us in caring for our watersheds and communities.

Be well,

Linda
